Funeral services for Grover W. “Bobe” Gates, 81, of Tallassee will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at Westside Baptist Church in Tallassee. The Rev. Rick Dorley will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at Jeffcoat-Linville Funeral Home.

Mr. Gates died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004. He was born Nov. 23, 1922. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service and also retired from West Point Pepperell in Opelika in 1987. He was a former deacon at Calvary Baptist Church and a dedicated member of Westside Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Gates; three children, Mark W. Gates and wife Angie, Joan Fowler and Jenell Lynch; one brother, Charles Gates; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lizzie Gates; one son, Grover Wilson Gates Jr.; one daughter, Paula Manning; four sisters and eight brothers.

Jeffcoat-Linville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
